During the CareerFoundry Full-Stack Web Development Program, you’ll build out a job-ready portfolio. Below is a breakdown of graduate Trevor’s meal-planning web app portfolio project. If you’d like to visit his full portfolio, head over to his website.
Trevor completed our Full-Stack Web Development Program in January 2021 and is now working full time as a developer.
What inspired you to make a career change into this field?
I wanted to move into a career path that aligned more with my own personal interests. I wanted to create products that are powerful and intuitive.
What did you enjoy most about the CareerFoundry Web Development Program?
I enjoyed that it was up-to-date and was relevant to current industry standards. It was also really great to be able to work completely online at my own pace. I loved that CareerFoundry created an online community that was friendly and very helpful, especially when things got difficult. It was a game-changer to have some study buddies to help me through the hard times.
What did you enjoy about creating your CareerFoundry portfolio project?
It was a challenge to know how to best display the information in a way that is intuitive for the user. I enjoyed reviewing how to integrate Google Firebase in an app and using its built-in methods to manipulate data. The best part about the app however, is that it makes my life easier and saves me time when I’m meal planning.
With regards to your new career and skills, what are your hopes for the future?
My hope is that I’ll be able to find a career that supports the kind of lifestyle that I want to live. I want to be able to give my kids and grandkids opportunities that they wouldn’t have otherwise had. I want to be able to build tools that help people to better their own lives as well.
Introducing his project, Trevor said:
“I built a meal-planning app that provides inspiration to users on what kinds of meals they can prepare throughout the week. It presents a list of randomized meals that correspond with each day of the week. I built it with React.js and the database is built in Firebase. I wanted to build it because meal-planning at the beginning of the week is one of my least favorite activities, so I wanted something that could do it for me with the click of a button.”
