Jack McWhinnie's Portfolio Project
During the CareerFoundry UI for UX Designers Specialization Course, you’ll build out a job-ready portfolio project. Here is a breakdown of graduate Jack’s portfolio project, Fitted. If you’d like to check out his full portfolio, head to his website.
What inspired you to make a career change into this field?
I decided to transition into UX/UI design for better career opportunities. While I enjoyed creating video and marketing content because it allowed me to be creative, there was little opportunity for career advancement. I enrolled in CareerFoundry’s UX Design Program because it allowed me to continue working in a creative field with nearly unlimited room for growth.
What did you enjoy most about the CareerFoundry UI for UX Designers Course?
My favorite part about CareerFoundry’s program was that it allowed me to learn at my own pace. Many of the other programs I looked at required you to sit through scheduled online lectures. For me, getting to learn and work on my portfolio project at any time of the day proved invaluable.
What did you enjoy about creating your CareerFoundry portfolio project?
The thing I enjoyed most about creating my portfolio project was that It helped me distill all my user research, wireframes, and prototypes into a cohesive story. Regardless of whether I’m showing my work to employers or my friends and family, anyone can quickly see how and why I ended up with my final product.
With regards to your new career and skills, what are your hopes for the future?
Two weeks after graduating from CareerFoundry I was offered a position at a VR/AR tech company! Being able to apply for jobs anywhere in the country made the application process much easier. I plan on becoming either a lead UX designer or a product manager. I am excited to see where this path will take me!
