Dani Rodriguez's Intro to Digital Marketing Portfolio Project
During the CareerFoundry Intro to Digital Marketing Course, you’ll build out a job-ready project for your portfolio. Here is graduate Dani’s project, Hotel 5280, an organic Instagram campaign.
What inspired you to make a career change into this field?
I had a previous background in general marketing but during the pandemic I lost my job. I started working as a technical recruiter in the tech and creative fields, which allowed me to keep my finger on the pulse of the marketing industry. My experience working closely with candidates and brands inspired me to get back on track and follow my goals of working in digital marketing.
What did you enjoy most about the CareerFoundry Intro to Digital Marketing Course?
I am a very hands-on learner, and I like to understand the end-to-end process of tasks. I was really able to dig into concepts and learn the technical skills that I am able to directly apply to roles. I feel more confident in my skillset moving forward since I got a thorough foundation to build off of in the CareerFoundry course.
What did you enjoy about creating your CareerFoundry portfolio project?
I loved being able to build and create my own brand to showcase who I am and what my skills are, and put this into practice outside of my resume.
With regards to your new skills, what are your hopes for the future?
I hope to land a digital marketing role within an experiential marketing company to pursue the future goal of becoming a branding director.
Reflection
What went well?
I think everything but execution went well. I tried hard to think everything through but found it was harder to market a goods / service without a link or anything to push them to. While I know it was just practice, that was the one thing that felt hard to maneuver around when coming up with copy and content.
What didn’t go well?
KPI’s didn’t do well at all. Meeting the goals was harder than expected even with it only being 10 apiece.
What can be improved?
I think implementation could be improved, or how to read the analytics better to make adjustments. I’m excited to get better at that.
Action items
For the next campaign, I am an avid believer that video is the answer for any social media woes. The algorithm favors videos, as well as audiences. It is also the easiest way to get emotion and branding across.
Learnings
- I learned how to dive into hashtags and how to properly use them. I’ve never been much of a hashtag user before, but have since noticed myself scrolling or paying attention to the use of hashtags more.
- I learned how to really think every piece through from beginning to end on a social campaign.
- I learned the different types of KPIs and how they are important within a campaign.
